INTENT ON MAKING WIND TURBINES LESS OBTRUSIVE, OBSTRUCTION LIGHTING PROVIDERS CONTINUE TO IMPROVE THE TECHNOLOGY.

A wind farm’s blinking red obstruction lights are a necessary safety measure to ensure wind turbines – which can measure from 400 to 550 feet in height – are visible to pilots and their aircraft. However, the intensity of these beams can also be an irritant to nearby residents, as the lights blink in contrast against the night sky. But thanks to advances in obstruction lighting technology, suppliers are introducing new products that flash only when necessary. The improvements are part of a growing trend to make obstruction lighting programs less intrusive.

TECHNOSTROBE LAUNCHES LIDS TECHNOLOGY FOR WIND TURBINES

Technostrobe has launched its LIDS (Lighting Intensity Dimming Solution) Technology for wind turbines. The company says the product, which stems from a development partnership with Vaisala, combines visibility measuring devices, LED lighting equipment and a communications network.

EDF’S TRIPLE PLAY SPELLS BIG BUSINESS FOR QUEBEC WIND ENERGY SUPPLIERS

By completing three wind farms in Quebec in the past four months, EDF has provided a much-needed economic boost for the region and its supply-chain partners. With the commissioning of the company's two most recent Quebec projects – the 150 MW Massif du Sud wind project and the first phase of the 150 MW Lac Alfred wind farm – EDF EN Canada has moved closer to achieving 1 GW of installed capacity by the end of 2015 and, in doing so, helped to boost Quebec's supply chain.
