Technostrobe and ITO Navaids won the call for submission requested by Vattenfall for its offshore wind farm project Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) 1-4, located off the Dutch coast in the North Sea. As one of Europe’s largest producers and retailers of electricity and heat, Vattenfall will build the world’s first subsidy-free offshore wind farm.

The scope of work includes the supply of temporary aids to navigation for the wind farm. A mix of self-contained marine lanterns and skids featuring fog horns and visibility sensors will ensure safe navigation around the wind farm for the duration of its construction estimated at approximately two years.

All systems feature remote monitoring with alarms and status updates available to Vattenfall. The first deliveries have taken place and will continue throughout the second and third quarters of 2021.

“We are very proud to have been selected to provide advanced aids to navigation and monitoring features for what will be the largest offshore wind farm at the time of completion – which happens to be located close by our facility in Noordwijk. This equipment will operate autonomously at sea and ensure continuous communication of its status. Our remote monitoring solution will provide a satellite link to ensure real-time communication to Vattenfall.” mentions Francis Lacombe, president of Technostrobe.

Mads Vinter Hansen, Head of Sales and Business Development at ITO Navaids, adds, “we look forward to working in close cooperation with Vattenfall as a trusted partner to ensure safe navigation around the Hollandse Kust Zuid 1-4 wind farms and help to deliver the first subsidy-free offshore wind project in the Netherlands”.
